The television adaptation of Charles Dickens' *A Christmas Carol* from 1984 is a truly delightful presentation. Featuring George C. Scott in the role of Ebenezer Scrooge, Clive Donner’s film does justice to the original story and showcases Scott’s considerable talent. While the characters stay true to their literary counterparts, Scrooge is portrayed with a complicated past and an internal struggle that gives the movie real depth. Donner and writer Roger Hirson keep the darkness central to Dickens' narrative, making the frightening parts genuinely unsettling for younger viewers, and ensuring the Victorian setting feels genuine. If you’re not familiar with this particular take on the frequently adapted story, be sure to schedule it for your holiday viewing next year. It earns a rating of 9/10.
