It felt predictable from the start, given Randy Newman’s western-inspired music, that we were headed somewhere… though perhaps not toward an animated film about insects mirroring "The Magnificent Seven." The ants work tirelessly to gather food, presenting it as tribute to grasshoppers who threaten them. However, the overly eager “Flik” enjoys tinkering and inventing; when he builds a harvesting machine that accidentally sends their offering into a pit, trouble arises. Naturally, the bugs are upset and promise to return after the next harvest, threatening serious consequences if no feast is prepared. The Queen and her daughter "Princess Atta" see no chance of success, so they gladly send “Flik” off to gather warriors, viewing him as an inconvenience. Will he manage to find a group capable of protecting his colony and restore his reputation? It’s generally well-structured, featuring many colorful characters, but it's hard to ignore the fact that "Flik" can be quite irritating—and I started losing focus due to the sheer amount of talking; there’s a lot of dialogue. While the final portion is enjoyable, and I appreciated how things wrapped up, the majority felt somewhat repetitive.
