I didn’t enjoy this movie; for me, it ranks among the worst of the year. While it isn't a Hollywood production, it features an international cast and is entirely in English, filmed on location in Italy. The acting was strong, but the plot felt underdeveloped, possibly due to its slow tempo. It’s a two-hour drama centered around a complicated romantic situation involving people on holiday in Italy. The musical aspects were a positive point, and many scenes take place near water—a pool or the ocean—with frequent splashes, as the title suggests. Tilda Swinton has limited dialogue, but her presence was still valuable to the film. Matthias Schoenaerts is part of the main cast, but his inconsistent appearances diminish his impact. Dakota Johnson’s role felt puzzling, yet she added a certain visual appeal to the story. Ralph Fiennes carries much of the narrative through his performance, which was remarkable and showed a level of commitment I hadn't seen from him before. It might be worth watching just for his work, though that isn’t enough to recommend the film as a whole. If you’re in the mood for a conventional drama, this isn't it; it feels like an experimental project, but doesn't offer anything particularly original—much of it felt tedious. There isn't really a story, just a series of events during a vacation where the main characters seem to be trying to outdo each other. It won’t appeal to everyone, and if you do enjoy it, that’s great for both you and the film. I personally can’t recommend it unless you’re looking for something else to watch. The music was good, and the scenery was lovely, but the movie's flaws were more noticeable than its strengths. 4/10
