Initially, it seems this movie tackles the disheartening topic of slavery in contemporary times—a theme explored elsewhere as well. However, early on, almost without notice, the narrative gently transitions to focus on the protagonist’s ethical dilemmas. The viewer is drawn into his experiences and, mirroring him, starts to grasp how distorted our society can be. The storytelling and filmmaking are exceptionally skillful at influencing your perspective; even the gritty visuals contribute to the overall effect. This marks my introduction to Moratto's work, and certainly won’t be the only time I watch it.
