This wasn’t what I anticipated at all; it was something entirely different. It's a 45-minute mockumentary created for television and broadcast on HBO last year. The director, who recently directed the feature film comedy 'Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates,' helmed this project. Though an American production, the story unfolds in England. The narrative centers around two top tennis players competing in a significant match that stretches out over seven days. You read that correctly—the movie shows how the game was prolonged for a week, interspersed with flashback clips and interviews. The film is set in 2001, but the visual style, particularly the players' appearances, evokes the 70s or perhaps the 80s. Regardless, it’s exceptionally good, far surpassing contemporary comedies. The humor is fantastic; I often laughed out loud uncontrollably. I feel that the story and its characters were very well developed. The actors delivered outstanding performances. I generally enjoy Andy Samberg's films and his work, but this time his performance truly stood out for me. In my view, it’s his best film so far. It is unfortunate that it wasn't released in theaters. It seems the director intended to make a short film, given his background in creating them. However, I appreciate that he presented it as an independent television episode of a suitable length, allowing him to thoroughly develop the story and its characters. > "This is like nothing I've ever seen. Spectacular! Absolutely spectacular!" The entire film was shot in just three days, despite being less than an hour long, without sacrificing production quality. The actors also demonstrated their athletic abilities convincingly, which is impressive since it’s a comedy—a detail that could have been overlooked. Andy Samberg recently did another mockumentary focused on music called 'Popstar; Never Stop Never Stooping,' but given this film's success, it would be no surprise to see it adapted into a feature-length mockumentary. Naturally, Andy’s role received more focus, but Kit Harington was equally impressive. He has an important part in the story, and their dynamic reminded me of Nadal and Federer facing off against each other. Several guest appearances were essential for telling this tale in the most humorous way possible. Therefore, it's difficult to imagine anyone being disappointed, though you should approach it with an open mind. I was pleasantly surprised by the film’s intelligence and humor. It is definitely geared toward adults, as there are numerous adult jokes and unexpected nudity. But if you’re old enough, just enjoy what it has to offer. From its clever title to the wonderful performances and sharp writing, this is a must-see. I hope you don't miss it, especially if you’re a tennis fan—you’ll likely find it even funnier than others.
