It’s refreshing to witness Bay stepping away from the Transformers franchise and returning to his style of large-scale, action-packed films intended for an adult audience. To be honest, the plot details have escaped me, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching the craziness play out on screen. Reynolds is reliably excellent; he embodies a familiar persona, which is precisely why audiences appreciate him. The supporting actors are present and adequate, though ultimately the film’s appeal rests on Reynolds' humor and Bay’s over-the-top action sequences. This marks his strongest work in quite some time. It isn’t a significant statement, but no one crafts films quite like Bay, and it’s pleasing to see him operating without constraints.
