It's worth seeing, particularly given that it’s better than the remake, which addressed some issues with the storyline. The initial portion feels like a standard Western—something John Wayne or Jimmy Stewart might have starred in. However, things shift when they reach Contention, evolving into a psychological exploration. What stands out is how Wade's actions genuinely seem to affect the protagonist, Evans. Then, abruptly, Evans appears to recover and joins the train for a cheerful resolution because Wade unexpectedly chooses to assist him. The performances from the two main actors are excellent—particularly Ford’s—but the supporting characters aren’t given much attention or depth. The musical score and visuals are outstanding. It's a western that rises above average, deserving of its reputation as a classic film, though it didn’t quite live up to my expectations for a true masterpiece.
