The story of the “3 Ninjas” series is one of highs and lows. The first movie in the set remains something special, even if it didn’t get widespread praise like some others do. It has a genuinely enjoyable feel that's very much tied to the 90s, which appeals to a lot of people. Rocky, Colt, and Tumtum are likable characters, particularly when they’re practicing martial arts with their grandfather, Tanaka. The movie isn’t heavy on detailed training sequences, but it still has a nostalgic quality that makes it endearing and memorable, solidifying its status as a cult favorite deserving another look. The second film was okay, but suffered because Rocky and Tumtum were played by different actors, which broke up the feel of the first one. Even so, the new cast members kept the movie fun and entertaining, though it didn’t quite live up to what came before. The martial arts instruction still isn't very deep, but having the grandfather back helps connect the films together. The third film tried to bring the original actors back for a sense of familiarity, but the repeated recasting left many confused. While it included elements of Indian culture and indigenous heroes, the movie ended up feeling corny and not worth watching again—except for seeing the original cast members, especially the grandfather. Things really went off the rails with the fourth film, which was an awful attempt that seemed designed to make money, featuring Hulk Hogan and someone who resembled Pamela Anderson in a plot about taking over an amusement park. The choice of actor for Tumtum’s role was particularly bad, resulting in a disappointing performance. Rocky and Colt were reduced to minor roles, moving away from what made the three ninjas interesting. The shift to a story focused on a villain fighting the FBI felt like the absolute worst thing the series could have done, leading to its end and disappearance from view.
