I wasn’t sure what to expect from this movie. It seemed like a big-budget zombie film with professionals involved, which suggested it would be decent. However, I’ve never been crazy about the franchise itself, and this one kicks off a new series of three films. So while I figured it would be watchable, I wasn't certain if it would resonate with me or feel complete on its own. After seeing it, I was pleased, and my opinion has only gotten better since then; I’m now rating it a **9 out of 10**. What might surprise viewers is the emotional depth this film possesses. It all stems from the well-developed characters and their connections to one another. There's a lot of heart and even some genuine humor that helps you become invested in what’s happening. This lifts the movie above being just another entertaining zombie flick. Let’s discuss the zombies, or infected, though. A few fresh ideas are introduced regarding them that I found compelling. They’re more frightening than ever before, yet they also display a surprising amount of humanity. The action sequences and kills are enjoyable to watch; everything is as quick and scary as you'd anticipate from this series. That said, there are a couple of editing choices that distracted me from the action rather than enhancing it. I feel similarly about other aspects of the film. They chose to insert brief clips of other footage at times. There was one instance where I really liked it, another where it felt like a movie trailer, and yet another where it simply left me confused—I still don’t understand what that part meant. Those are examples where the stylistic choices didn't quite land. But for about 95% of the film, they work well! The visuals have such a distinctive quality; **it manages to feel both peaceful and like a nightmare simultaneously!** I’m not sure how they achieved it. If you’ve seen the trailer, you get an idea of the movie's style, and thankfully, it delivers on that promise. Then there’s a scene at the very end which hints at what’s to come in the trilogy. This scene has a unique feel and tone unlike anything else in the film—a genuine “what just happened?” moment for the audience. It was an ambitious choice, but it didn't quite work for me. However, because it only serves as a preview of future installments and isn’t crucial to this one, I can overlook it. Before that point, we got a proper conclusion to the story that felt emotionally satisfying. This film easily stands on its own. You are left wanting more, and some characters' stories aren’t fully resolved. But if you go in knowing it's part of a trilogy (and that the next one arrives in January), these things might not bother you as much. Overall, **I am definitely pleased to be a fan of zombies! :D**
