Leno on 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple

10/10 · Jan 18, 2026

I consider *The Original 28 Days Later* to be among my all-time favorite films, and I was eagerly anticipating this new trilogy after waiting a very long time – specifically, eighteen years since *28 Weeks Later*. While the first *28 Years Later* didn't quite live up to expectations for me, the bone temple is precisely what made enduring that wait worthwhile. The story picks up with several key characters continuing from the previous film. Spike finds himself compelled to participate in increasingly disturbing acts as part of Jimmy’s satanic cult, and Doctor Ian conducts experiments on the Alpha zombie after it demonstrates signs of reasoning—akin to a more advanced version of “Bub” from *Day of the Dead*. Eventually, these characters' storylines converge, resulting in dangerous situations within an action-filled narrative. The acting is superb, the gore is intense but not overdone, the plot is believable and unexpected, and there are several memorable moments that cement this as one of the finest zombie movies ever made—though it places a greater emphasis on the harm people inflict rather than solely focusing on the zombies themselves. This movie may very well be the best of 2026, and the ending was truly remarkable; I am excited for the third film. It’s an incredible time to be witnessing this! P.S. Be sure you've seen the previous *28 Years Later* movie and at least the final twenty minutes of *28 Days Later*.
