It proved to be an excellent continuation of what was already a strong zombie film—though my personal favorite in the genre remains Jean Rollin’s ‘The Grapes of Death,’ which is quite striking visually. I found myself enjoying it more than expected. It seems like, at this point, every possible angle within zombie movies should have been explored, but I still appreciate seeing creative and well-considered takes on the concept. What stood out most here was a husband’s decision to prioritize his own safety over helping his wife during a terrible situation, followed by infanticide—or something even more disturbing—to avoid confronting his children's anger about that choice. It's funny when you consider it: humanity is facing its end because a young boy had to retrieve a photograph of his mother, simply because he was worried he’d forget what she looked like. It turned out to be a genuinely rewarding experience and something horror enthusiasts should definitely buy and watch again. I usually prefer older films, from the 1920s through the 1960s, but for modern horror, this one impressed me considerably, particularly Jeremy Renner and Imogen Poots’ performances. It's not unexpected that they quickly rose to prominence.
