It's easy to see how this film connects to earlier comedies like "The Russians Are Coming! The Russians Are Coming!" and “It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World,” given that it shares a production team with both. Like those films, "1941" brings together a large group of recognizable actors including Robert Stack, Treat Williams, Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Christopher Lee, Tim Matheson, Warren Oates, Slim Pickens, and others. Nancy Allen and Diane Kay also stand out among the female performers. I found it to be more enjoyable than either of those earlier movies. If you're looking for something lively and amusing to watch, this is a good choice. There’s an especially memorable Jitterbug sequence that highlights how energetic that dance style was at the time. Despite some perceptions, "1941" did reasonably well in theaters; it wasn't a blockbuster but has since gained a loyal following. The film clocks in at 1 hour and 58 minutes and filming took place from October 1978 to May 1979 throughout the Los Angeles region, with the initial scenes filmed along the Oregon coast at Cannon Beach and Gold Beach—a considerable distance apart.
