The film’s visual presentation is undeniably impressive. The decision to shoot it in a single take occasionally proves disruptive, as viewers may find themselves preoccupied with how such a feat was accomplished; however, this doesn't significantly diminish the overall impact. The narrative, along with the writing and its internal consistency, represent the true shortcomings that prevent this movie from achieving greatness. The premise of dispatching just two men on a crucial assignment to rescue 1600 others feels far-fetched, particularly when considering the realities of a war marked by widespread casualties. The idea of sending such a small number into dangerous, uncharted territory seems questionable. Furthermore, it's peculiar that the protagonist appears impervious to gunfire from enemy soldiers, even during perilous moments. When injuries do occur, they vanish almost instantaneously. It’s as if Director Sam Mendes lacked an understanding of the physical consequences of explosions, because while others are knocked off their feet, the main characters seem unaffected by basic physics. A particularly unbelievable sequence involves concealed explosives and a landslide of rocks, yet the characters sustain no visible injuries or lasting effects on their appearance or hearing—aside from some dust in their eyes. Numerous other instances exist where the plot lacks sense or believability. Ultimately, the movie is worthwhile for its cinematography, meticulous detail, costumes, and performances; however, a predictable storyline and issues with plausibility hold it back from reaching its full potential.
