This movie is remarkably awful and unintelligent. I don’t often describe films as dumb, but with this one, the word seems to jump off the screen in every single shot of this badly made story. A young couple expecting their first baby leases a house from Gerald (Neville Archambault), a dirty, unpleasant man who has secretly put cameras there to watch his new renters... Okay, let's set aside the fact that any reasonable couple would immediately leave upon meeting someone like Gerald – because at that point, there’s no movie left to be had – but what unfolds afterward is truly unbelievable. How are we supposed to respond to characters (and a filmmaker) who discover a locked, hidden staircase and then completely forget about it for the rest of the story? It feels disrespectful. The silly situations and the characters' actions continue without restraint until the end, which is absurdly presented. As for the performances... It’s a real disappointment that this could have been something truly unsettling, perhaps even offering some thought-provoking social commentary. Steer clear if you want either of those things. 3/10 for a scene involving a toothbrush that will either make you cringe or cause laughter in equal measure.
