It's easy to see the effort put in by everyone who worked on _127 Hours_. Given how much of the movie feels like an extended bottle episode—the main character isn't even permitted basic movements—it's not unreasonable to say that there’s simply not a great deal happening. Director Danny Boyle attempts to liven things up with some unusual filming techniques, and I will acknowledge his creativity for trying something different, but it doesn’t alter the fact that the movie remains fairly static. James Franco isn't a poor performer, but carrying a film like this on your own is a significant challenge, one that proves too much even for him. _127 Hours_ didn't hold my attention completely; it was frequently intense and occasionally disturbing, but never truly captivating. _Final rating:★★½ - There were aspects I liked, but ultimately the whole thing didn’t quite come together._
