I personally preferred the version featuring Keanu Reeves, Sandra Bullock, and Dennis Hopper. SPEED (1994) clearly served as a significant influence on this film; in fact, with minor alterations, it could have easily passed for a continuation of that story. Even though John Cena performs better than he typically does in films, he simply isn’t the same as Keanu – and I'll admit I just said that. Ashley Scott doesn’t quite capture Sandra Bullock’s essence either, nor does Aidan Gillen embody Dennis Hopper’s character. However, it’s not a bad film; SPEED (1994) remains one of the strongest action blockbusters from the nineties, so expecting this movie to reach that level was always going to be a tall order. Returning to the current film, it's adequate – just standard, uncomplicated entertainment. Renny Harlin is skilled at crafting action sequences, and he certainly fulfills that role here. I don’t usually mind shaky camera work too much, but this movie has an excessive amount of it, and there are moments when a steadier shot would have been preferable; unfortunately, there's not much one can do about that. There isn’t really anything else to add regarding the film—it’s not poorly made, we’ve just encountered something similar before. It is the best movie I’ve seen John Cena in, at least.
