The film initially felt reminiscent of Misery and Moon, ultimately taking on a vibe similar to The Mist. Knowing it was a follow-up to Cloverfield—a movie I enjoyed—I anticipated an alien storyline, but that expectation faded because the writing was so strong. It consistently presented perplexing situations and featured numerous tense encounters involving John Goodman, attributable to the excellent screenplay by Damien Chazelle. I honestly lost track of where the narrative seemed headed and wasn't entirely satisfied with how it concluded. ★★½
