Ivan The Terrible Collection

The "Ivan The Terrible Collection" is a two-part historical film series created by the acclaimed Russian director Sergei Eisenstein. Beginning with the first installment in 1944 and concluding with the second in 1958, the collection was developed as a trilogy exploring the reign of Ivan IV of Russia. Political censorship delayed the release of the second part until 1958, resulting in a gap of nearly a decade between the initial release and the completion of the intended narrative. The two films in the collection have a combined runtime of 177 minutes. The project, which was initially envisioned as a trilogy, was left unfinished upon Eisenstein's death. The collection comprises "Иван Грозный" (1944) with a runtime of 95 minutes and "Иван Грозный. Сказ второй: Боярский заговор" (1958), which has a runtime of 82 minutes. The production of the "Ivan The Terrible Collection" had a total budget of zero and generated no revenue. This two-part series represents a significant, albeit incomplete, artistic endeavor by Eisenstein into a pivotal period of Russian history.
